Installing Oxford Faux Panels: Basic Guidelines

Tools and Supplies You'll Need

You can install FauxPanels® paneling or siding products easily using tools found in almost everyone's toolbox. To complete a wall, you will need:

  1. Screws — use either exterior or interior screws, as appropriate for your installation.
  2. Construction Adhesive/Glue — we recommend PL® Polyurethane Premium. You can purchase it from this website if you prefer.
(It must be rated for use on urethane for best results).
  3. Screwdriver (battery-operated/electric preferred).
  4. Sandpaper or sanding block
  5. Caulking gun
  6. FauxPanels® color-matched caulk
  7. Wood cutting saw for cutting panels - jig saw, band saw, your preference.

Directions:

The panels can be used on any flat surface, including brick or concrete.

1. Apply glue to the back of the panel in a zigzag pattern.

2. Make sure the panel is level and fasten the panel to the wall with screws in each corner.

3. For the next panel, repeat steps 1 and 2. Then slide the panel in place.

4. Tap in for a snug fit. Make sure you install the panels tightly, as they may expand and contract with temperature changes. Repeat these steps until the first row is complete.

5. Now you can start the next row. The panels were designed to lock into each other top and bottom.

6. Tap panel in for a snug fit.

7. For a seamless look, offset each row by one half sheet. This will make it impossible to notice any seams.

8. Make sure to keep the panels level. You can use a chalk line (or pencil lines) on your wall to make sure the panels are staying straight.

9. Remember to fasten all corners with screws.

10. Continue to glue, fit and fasten.

11. Caulk all the seams. The color matched caulking we provide looks like real grout. It will seal out the moisture, hide any gaps, plus it expands and contracts with the weather.

12. Now you can enjoy your maintenance free panels for a lifetime.

Tip...

The screws you use can be for interior or exterior (depending on your application). Be sure that the tongue portion of the panel is on top of the panel, groove portion on the bottom. All joints should be butt joints on straight runs, and mitered joints in corners. All joints will need to be glued. The panels may require additional shimming and trimming for alignment.

To make a perfect seamless look, you may have to sand the ends (in the high spots) to make a tight fit.
